It's never just ONE
The demands of a working mom are like no other. (Except maybe a single working dad). Working moms own a lot of hats, too many hats. Have you ever tried to wear 100 hats at a time? Ok, so you think I'm exaggerating? How about 10 hats?
My daily HATS:
WIFE HAT - Don't get me wrong....I'm glad that someone is here that can help - most days. But sometimes, it's like having another kid. He doesn't keep track of "things" like I do and is always asking questions about where things are (even though he also has 2 working eyes). There's more... just don't want to go there.
MOM HAT - I LOVE MY KIDS! (Just like I love my hubby). BUT, I can't remember the last time I had a thought about what I want or what I need. It's always someone else. Someone needs help with homework, someone needs dinner or breakfast, someone needs a permission slip signed and brought to school because they forgot to ask me a week ago. They HAVE to have a certain pair of pants washed right now, at 10:00pm, to wear the next day. You get it.
CEO HAT - I work from home, which honestly, I think is worse. I never get to leave work AND I never get to leave home and get to chit chat with my co-workers without the dog barking, a kid barging in or my husband asking where HIS keys are.
VET HAT - The dog eats her own poop and then so kindly decides to vomit when she comes inside. Guess who cleans it up? The dog ate an iron supplement? Guess who is searching the internet for solutions while on-hold with the poison control and chatting online with the real vet?
TUTOR HAT - Are you smarter than a 5th grader? How about a high school sophomore? Do YOU remember geometry? I expunged this entire subject from my brain when I finished the class and honestly, I think I've only needed to recall something less than a handful of times my entire life. But my 15 y.o. son is questioning my overall intelligence because I don't remember how to determine if lines are frickin' parallel!! Who cares!!! (I know someone does, so please don't take offense).
DRIVER HAT - Honestly, this isn't a major hat for me anymore since I have a daughter that can drive.
THERAPIST HAT - I can't go into this topic due to HIPAA laws. JK. But, I do honor patient confidentiality!!
DOCTOR HAT - It seems since COVID, someone is always sick, not feeling well, has a headache, sore throat, fever, etc. And if not that, they fell on the stairs at school and twisted an ankle and a giant black bruise is appearing on their knee as I type this.
COLLEGE CONSULTANT HAT - OK, does anyone remember this process? I remember it being a lot easier than it is today! There are people who make this their full time profession! I know, I wanted to hire one, saw their prices and realized I chose the wrong profession! Holy cow, I could support my kid for life and they wouldn't even need college if I got paid to do this!!!
BEST FRIEND HAT - As a mom, we are known to be the nurturing one, the one who listens, really listens - no sports or talk radio in the background. We comfort, we smile, we cry and if and when the time is right, we offer suggestions without judgment. I love that I can be this for my kids. No buts. And, hubby needs an ear or help with a project or wants to chat about finances.
Most days include these 10 hats plus at least 5 to 7 more.
Life is stressful and some days I just want to wear my ME HAT.
